The interior of the Swensen's Ice Cream in San Francisco. Of the 150 flavors Mr. Swensen sold, vanilla was his favorite. "It was considered the hardest flavor to get just right," current owner Dick Campana explained to the Chronicle in 1996. "It's a flavor you can't mask. He appreciated that. He'd have a small cone of vanilla."
